Week 3
‘Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”‘ Matthew 1:20
The Lord often leads us into situations that require deep trust and dependency. In Joseph’s case every cultural norm and biblical precedent pointed towards him quietly leaving his wife-to-be. Thankfully, Joseph trusted that he’d received a word from God and in doing so chose to live in a way that required courage, integrity, and humility. Greater than his fear of what people might say was his fear of the Lord. And that made all the difference.
We have been on a learning journey as a family asking Jesus to be the Lord of every area of our lives. Ask the Father:
- Is there any way in which fear has kept me from following you whole-heartedly?
- As God responds (maybe through a scripture, a picture, or an impression in your mind), ask for His forgiveness and invite Jesus to reveal the Father’s goodness to you afresh.
Pray
- For your family that you and your household would honor God above every cultural norm.
- For the churches of Kansas City, that together we would be known for our trust in God and courage to obey His voice.
Praise the Lord! How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who greatly delights in His commandments. Psalm 112:1
